Friends of Woodside School PDF Print E-mail

Anyone can be a 'Friend of Woodside School'.  The group is made up of parents, carers, grandparents, family members and people from our community – everyone is welcome!

We work together supporting the school, teachers and the children.

Whether you have 1 hour or 3, every day or once in a while, whatever you can do all helps.

Here are just some of the ways you can help:

Class Support

Listening to children read

Helping with cooking sessions

General help with projects like cutting out things etc.

Trips

We always need lots of volunteers to make school trips possible - please ask your child’s teacher about helping.

Gardening

We have a gardening club made up of volunteers. Anytime you could give to support this group would be most welcome; planting, tidying, watering, weeding - whatever suits you.  Please ask at reception for details. We still need honeysuckles, clematis, thornless blackberries and other climbing plants. In autumn we will be looking for bulbs and bulb planters.

There is a Butterfly Patch Project starting at Sure Start Children‘s Centre situated on the school grounds.  They need blue and purple flowering perennials - Jacob’s ladder, geraniums, mallows, feverfew, yarrow, comfrey, fennel, purple sage, marjoram, borage, catmint, hyssop, lavender, honeysuckle, valerian, wild thyme and also buddleia trees.  If you can help, please contact Sophie Rajraji on 01691 655890.

Working Parties

A group of volunteers support the school by meeting in the demountable hall once a week after morning drop off. We complete a range of tasks which include laminating, cleaning toys and mending books.  Refreshments provided, preschool children welcome, toys available.  Please see ‘Dates for your Diary’ for the meeting.

Clubs

After school clubs are a fantastic addition to the school day.  We are always looking to support and extend the range of activities available.  Helping at a club may mean that we can increase the number of children who are able to attend.  You may even have an idea or skill which could be used to start a new club.  We would love to hear from you.

Lunch time supervisor support

We are working with the school to create a ’bank’ of people to help cover lunch time supervision in the event of sickness/absence.  This is a paid role.  Please contact Reception if you would like to be put on the list. (CRB certificate required).

Story Sacks

Story sacks are about making books fun and bringing stories to life. They are for use at both school and in the home. A Story Sack is a cloth bag full of wonderful resources to encourage children and adults to enjoy reading together.

We are always looking for volunteers to help make the cloth sacks or contribute to them - knitters, charity shop or car boot sale hunters! Or people to check sack contents when they are returned.  If you would like to help please contact reception.
